I am moving to NY from LA later this year.

1) Any advice about good surf spots would be appreciated. I am not planning to have a car in NY. Any advice about getting there using public transportation would be great.

2) What kind of gears do yo use there? summer: still 3/2 full suit? winter: gloves and hood required? what thickness wetsuit?

3) If such a thing like going surfing without a car is possible, what do you do with your belongings?

Hey, thats great to here!
Where in NY are you movin too?
I know some great jersey spots that might be close! I am still a beginner but I always go to Long Beach Island & Belmar. All locations are right off the New Jersey Parkway! There are always friendly people there!
The night life is pretty cool in Belmar too!

As for the car situation, I think you would have to take a car to those points so that you can transport your board on the roof. Thats what everyone usually does.
Busses might be able to store your board on the bottom in there storage area where the bags go? I've never tried that though.

Good Luck with everything! :-)
