Summer Intermediate Surf Spots?

Postby abrowithgoals » Tue Mar 14, 2017 7:01 pm

Possibly planning my first vacation based solely on surfing, and currently I'm in a dire need of suggestions. Looking for some decent sized waves preferably in North America and in july/august.

Big ask! So east coast, west coast, where do you surf now? Northern surf either side or southern warm waters either side?
You say you are intermediate what can you do in your surfing? Are you driving , or wanting to stay somewhere with surf?

What are the break you hold secret desires to surf?

Heh, sorry I guess I was a little vague. I'm look for either California/hawaii or the caribbean for surfing. I'd rather not have to drive at least far from the spot I'm staying but I will if needed.
And I'm using the term intermediate pretty lightly probably. Right now I can easily carve and maneuver on my 6' fiber glass and when the waves get bigger I can pull of 180s.I know my basic etiquette but I've never really had to use it because I'm used to uncrowded East Coast beach breaks. So idk if I'm still technically a beginner or not. Thanks for the help.

So south shore Hawaii, Not particularly of aware of how the Californian summer surf season runs, and Caribbean well. Why not name the one you would like most, as there are intermediate spots in all of them.
BTW, what do you mean by a 180? The trip you decide on will really show you where you are in the surfing food chain and if you get lots of surf time, improve your skills greatly

So I don't really know the terms for surfing because I'm almost always solo. But if its called a 180, basically I build up speed go to the top of the wave completely and when I get to the top I do a full on 180 so I'm facing the bottom of the wave. Sometimes(when the waves are big enough) I get air but 90% of the time I don't because lack of speed. For the location I guess I'd prefer the place that would be the least crowded(so caribbean I'm guessing). Thanks for being so patient with me

Abro: if thinking about California, then know this. The Central Coast (e.g., Santa Barbara, Ventura) does not offer much surf in the Summer. Either stay north of Santa Cruz all the way into Oregon, or go south of Los Angeles into Baja Calfifornia in Mexico.

Patience is easy, what you are describe I'd call a fairly decent top turn, connect that to a bottom turn and repeat sequence, good turning progress down the line. Don't fret on the terminology get your turns connected and in relation to the wave, every turn and thing you do is to add to your speed, as you have notice there is air to spare , but you need the speed.
