Surfing Hawaii January: What Island

Hi,
I am planning a trip to Hawaii for surfing next January. I am an intermediate level surfer at best, and surfed Kauai for a week in Nov. 2015. My favorite spots were Hanalei and Kalapaki, I prefer sandy breaks.
I am thinking of going back to Kauai, or possibly Maui. I have been to Maui previously but before I started surfing. One of the things I loved about Kauai was how uncrowded it was (for me) being from Los Angeles. Surfing is the main thing I am interested in here so questions.
Difference is conditions and crowds, on Kauai between November and January
Difference in weather on Kauai between November and January
Surfing conditions (and crowds) in Maui in January.
Thanks

The weather and crowds on Kauai should be quite similar between November and January. It is right in the middle of the rainy season and right in the middle of the north swell season which increases both visitors and locals surfing on the Norths shore
