Surfing Waves

At the end of may I am going to be a doing around a 2 week road trip. I'm planning on doing some rock climbing and mountain biking at the Red River Gorge and then for the second part of the trip do some surfing. I was thinking of heading to North Carolina.

This is going to be my first 'real time' surfing. I did it a couple times when I was younger but haven't in years. I've been snowboarding and wakeboarding for the last several years so I'm not a complete newbie with balancing on a board. So does anyone have suggestions on some good East coast spots that I can indulge on some surfing for 3-7 days.

Oh and looking to do some camping too so places with beach camping would be awesome!

Hatteras in NC is popular....best in that area....all up and down the NC outer banks there are surf spots. I tried a few times as a teenager; my brother in law still goes there for a week every summer and takes his board.

The US east coast ain't great, but it's not without potential surf. My suggestions? Search this forum for my posts about suring NC's Outer Banks and FL's Cocoa Beach. That'll help you, I'm sure.

I have a friend from Montauk Long Island....pics Ive seen is that it can be very good on it's days....outside of that there are several spots scattered down from NJ, Reoboth, Ocean City MD.
