Good beginner spots in San Diego?

Planning a trip to Cali with my bro in February. I've surfed like four times before, and he's surfed once - so we're complete noobs. We'll mainly be in the San Diego area, and I'm trying to convince him to go to Encinitas because it's a super chill place! I surfed in Encinitas at Carslbad Beach and Beacon's Beach. I mainly stayed in the white wash, but I might try to go out to the actual waves with my bro since it won't be as intimidating with someone else. Anyone have any spot recommendations around San Diego/Encinitas?
