surf trip january-march

Hi, Im from Europe without an easy access to the ocean...
So here's the thing. I'm an intermediate surfer (auto evaluation so tell me if im wrong)
I've been surfing 4 times for 2 to 3 weeks each time for the past 5 years and i haven't really progressed untill this year.
I've been twice in france and twice in portugal in peniche and this year i've been surfing at supertubos (it was 2-2.5m at the biggest day)
i don't have my own board so i'll have to buy a used one or rent one. I'm looking for a place where the waves wont be bigger than 3m from january to march, my budzet is not yet know because i haven't earned it yet :D the best scenario is that it will be a place where ill be able to work in the evenings and surf in the day time so i can stay for 3 months, Do someone know a place like this? out of europe as a preference, somewhere where is not too crowded and where i will be able to catch my first little tube ride. I will appreciate any reply's and thanks for the answers (that will hopefully come soon).

peace

I lived in Mexico for a year about 100 years ago....they had a lot of off the books jobs for an 18year old at the time....used to be cheap too, probably still is relatively speaking.

Go to Bali and visit Big H. I'm sure he knows all the places and where you can get work + surf.

that time of year - central america is your best bet. Its not exactly uncrowded, being full of Americans escaping their winter, but I'm not sure there is anywhere much better. South of the equator and its wet season.

I guess another option is South Africa

Thank You all, that was a quick reply :D i will continue to do research on where i'll go (i've considered all of the above)
Fortunately i have a little time to think about it so i hope i'll make the right choice about the destination.
One more question, what do you think about the budget for a good start (without plane tickets) i need a accommodation and a board on start a little saved money so i can find a job. (or is it better to find a job before my arrival? or do you have any ideas how to achieve it?)

I'll second Central America. I spent last January through march there and it was nothing short of incredible. If your looking for a place that's a bit more developed I'd go with Panama which has the same infrastructure as Costa Rica with significantly less crowds. But Nicaragua is the end all be all for me personally.
