Hello, I plan to go on Dominican Republic in November, I have read that it is mainly a windsurf destination though there are still waves spots like cabaretes. My question is how many waves' days can I hope to have in a month, and what is the best not overcrowdy spot to rent a board and catch nice waves (for beginner). Thank you !

Maybe that is the answer....no one has ever been there to surf. :)

I went there years ago.....had a blast.....was dancing meringue in open air nightclubs till dawn.......THAT was a good time. From what I've heard living in St. Thomas, the windward islands group in the Antilles chain get waves as does Puerto Rico in some spots. There was a wave that broke in St. Thomas sometimes at the mouth of Hull Bay; shallow reef from what I heard.....that was my diving days and before I was into surfing....saw a big 8ft green moray at the mouth of Hull on a night dive one time but I digress..... :)

Our main surf season is from October to April with overhead waves 80% of the time. The other, summer months, average size is chest high.

Tradewinds do make surfing all day difficult, but in winter time surf is good from 6 in the morning till midday.
