SURF TRIP ADVICE

Postby jguajardo » Mon Jul 18, 2016 3:03 am

I've been thinking about taking some time off on the holidays, I've never gone on a surf trip (in another country) I want to take a 14 day vacation, my work allows me to travel since I work online so obviously going to a place where Internet is available is a must. I have a $2000 budget including air fare. I live in Mainland Mexico, so that's out of the picture, I've never surfed outside of Mexico. I'm originally from McAllen TX but I moved to the mainland after a business trip. Maybe my budget can go to $3000 if it's worth it, I was also looking on Expedia and noticed that a flight to Tahiti was around 1500 round trip from Houston but I've heard that it's very expensive. Any advice is welcomed

jguajardo,
why not simply go west, Young Man?! Baja California has good surf and, usually, minimal surfers to compete with. If it is imperative for you to go to another country, simply go to San Diego, California, USA. Lots of surf there, too.

Cabo is cheapest, tickets as low as $250, hotels from $50 on up. there are a bunch of spots on mainland Mexico you can go to also, Tickets to Costa Rica are only $600, a nice hotel about $150 a night, a cheap one way less. If you want exotic try Bali, same price ticket but accommodations are way cheaper.

I can go to cabo, Colima city is about a 12 hr drive if I take the Ferry at los Mochis

Bali is another option, Have you ever been there ? I've seen nice footage of the beaches there, but is it a good place to be in the wintertime ? I've heard guys claim that it's about $1000 a good solid month there but I think they where exaggerating

Bali in the North American winter time (Nov, Jan, Feb? ) is in the middle of Indonesia's rainy season and is a rubbish and sewerage nightmare as every stream spews into the ocean.
Hot sweaty and possible mosquito borne disease, but people still go.
It is less crowded with tourists during this period and there is surf, just beating the onshore wind and knowing where to go is the trick. the east coast can do the trick and there can be rare days elsewhere.
Either the side of those three months the winds and rain gets a little more sporadic and some forerunner swell start to appear.
WiFi pretty good but outside the main centres start to get chancy.
Sometimes the surf can be like this

Wanted to get back on this topic.

I own a 4x4 business and we sell worldwide accesories and all that kind of stuff so I had a customer from Tahiti and he's invited me to go to the island and he has a house he will let me stay at free of charge and a car. So apparently it looks that I have a cheap trip. Any of you guys that have been to tahiti what time do you recommend. I'm planning to take a trip on march, booking my plane ticket next month. I'll probably be surfing at tapuuna and moorea, might consider going to cho-pu if it's alive at that time. Suggestions ? I will be posting details of the trip for you guys by the way :-)

suggestions: Buy a helmet?

Summer is smaller but March is 'shoulder' season. I havent been so cant tell you what smaller means; other than its pretty much reef breaks (there are one or two sand breaks)

Teahupo'o mmmm. Looks like a good place to sit on a boat and watch

Uncle Jaffa's suggestion you'll need money for excess baggage if you wish to take on Chopes at size. The excess baggage being the weight of your gonads to tackle it
Would worth seeing though! Code black or code red day eeee yow

i dont know, how much it takes to go Mexico - Jakarta? if you can press the plane budget under 2300$ i think i can help you go to Krui. It located on southest Sumatra, the plus point that it has so much surf spot (all level) yet isolated (not crowded). you have to go 6 hours to get there from local airport.

keyword:
- krui surf
- ujung bocur
- mandiri surf
- tanjung setia
- pugung surf
- etc

do you use whatsapp or line? surely i can inform you to there, my friend's hometown, with best price you can afford (of course you can benchmarking my opts to another from internet). just whatsapp me at +6282225536455, line me at fathoniasyrofduata, or mail me duata.pacifico@gmail.com

ps: i'm trying to enlarge my hometown's tourism

Why not rent out a van or something and explore the shores of mexico, there's lots to surf and will probably be your best trip of your life considering how much mexico offers surf wise, going abroad isn't really necessary in my point of view
