World's top companies to arrange luxe surf trips

Postby lisagrainger » Tue Apr 26, 2016 10:16 am

Morning,
I am a journalist and trying to research companies around the world that can arrange top-end surf trips. It is a TINY story, about how there are now companies who can sort out a trip to remote parts of the world, with great waves, and can sort out your luxury accommodation, get you there without hassle, and give you surf lessons.
Any advice for a TOTAL surf novice? I have found Tropic Surf, but there my knowledge ends.
Thanks
Lisa

Since there are so many surfing nations who you write for and in which country their masthead is based may have some relevance !
What sort of journey your highenders may want to undertake is another thing and great waves and beginners are not necessarily on the same page!
I was able to research where you are based many of the great destinations are half a world away.
There is also charter and resort top end facilities, lots more to consider.

I don't know, with all respect to others preferences, I think I'm tending a little bit more to the "hippie" side of surfing.. Luxury and surfing just doesn't seem to fit for me. I sympathize with histories like Tony Hussein's, how he blends in with the local people and culture, to the point of even becoming one of them in his case. It's small things like taking a bus with locals to get to the surf, doing daily stuff like going to the market to get your food and talk to some people, knowing a little about what it is to live in places you visit you know? That sounds like a more exciting experience than staying in a 5-star hotel, which is mostly a completely alternative reality to the places they are situated, and I would feel more welcome in the line up of a surf spot after being closer to the people that live there.

Me and my surfer friends always joke about surfers either being really rich OR live in a shoebox. There's no inbetween.

I wonder whether Lisa will respond to any of the posts. It seems a little odd that a a journalist has only found one top level site!

No one said all journo's were good or hardworking..........so many of these questions and surveys are just user laziness trying to get someone else to do the finger work for them. I would say there is a market for the high end surfer who wants luxury accommodation at far corners of the world that typically do not feature that kind of experience (yes, there are people like that who exist and are otherwise "regular").....to be able to fly to a remote spot with a minimum of third world transit hassle, with someone to ensure and portage your bags and boards around, to have delicious (and safe) food and air conditioned 1000 thread count sheets, master bath with jacuzzi jets waiting, all the while minimizing the amount of travel time needed to get there and back so that maximum amount of time could be spent on waves before having to rush off again to make more money....... there is definitely a market, however small. I would agree with Jaffa though and would and should think that beginners would and should not be included.
