Summer surf better in Morrocco or UK??

Postby ArnoldTheAtronaught » Sat Apr 16, 2016 8:27 pm

I have a Dilemma and I would be seriously grateful for any opinions!

My options for the summer (I'm a uni student) are:

1) stay and work (and surf) in the Uk
2) go and work in a surf camp in Taghazout, Morrocco

So obviously both options are likely to have pretty dire surf in June-August (unfortunately funds don't allow a sabbatical to Indo). But will Taghazout have better waves than Cornwall, say, or should I not bother and just stay in England (and earn more money)?

Any opinions/advice would be awesome.

Cheers.

I'm pretty sure the water would be much warmer in Morocco. If I had the choice, I would go Morocco.

If its primarliy surf your looking for then stay in the uk, especially if the work is better. It will be as good as morocco in summer.

Working for a surf camp does not pay well and you do a lot of hours. This is fine when its pumping and you can surf out front of the camp in your afternoon off, less fun when your driving 40mins to tamri all the time hoping for a wave above 1 foot. It'll be hot as hell too in july/august.

As a former Moroccan I can tell you living here is crazy cheap, and about the job opportunities at surf camps, I can't really tell you much about it, other than that the weather is amazing here but deeper in summer it will get crazy hot so now is the time to come.
The water is definitely warmer than the UK but still a bit cold so you'll need a spring wetsuit if you don't want to get a cold but you will probably not have risks of hyperthermia if you don't wear one.

The cost of living is going to definitely be higher in the UK than it will be living in Morocco but your cut in pay (not sure what you currently do but I know firsthand that teaching at a surf school doesn't pay well) might as well balance that out.

If your up for an adventure I'd say go travel, see some different culture and be somewhere different while you have an opportunity to escape for a few months. You might even score some early Fall swells down there by mid-late August!

Morocco is cool, but you can't get low-carb chip butties in Morocco like you can in England. I vote for the UK.
