Surfing Waves

Hi guys!

I've been looking into surfing on Malta and been reading up on Surf Malta and am wondering if anyone can offer any opinions/tips on surfing in general on Malta (maybe even the team behind that website), surfing areas for beginners on Malta, where I might find people who actually know how to surf, meaning more experiences areas (just to watch I suppose as I'm completely new).

I'm considering going there soon as Norway is WAY too cold right now

Kat I'm going to ask you , why Malta? It is very off the surf zone an doesn't have fetch to generate consistent waves of any quality. But like any island it can function on its day!

I am not comfortable with the site as it also offers gaming ( gambling) and that concerns me!
We try not to post website advertising especially from first time posters, the websites can apply to admin to advertise. We also get interns from those sites trying to sneak advertising through.

For surfing I think Portugal, Spain the Azores, Morroco and the Canary Islands offer much more chance of a learning experience.

Malta the only thing likely on a short visit, flat and uncrowded surf.

Why Malta is very easy to answer; easier for me to get a job if I want to stay AND it's warm haha

I didn't catch the part about gambling on that site (skimmed right past it apparently) though it doesn't seem like advertising to me now that I read it, more like them telling about themselfes (if they are the two guys behind the surf team there). Anyway, still looking for info on that team if anyone has any

I've been to Portugal (beautiful country and LOVE the people) as well as the Canary Islands. Maybe I'll look into the others when I've started up and can actually do more than just stand on a board. But then again, it's more the fact that it might be easier for me to relocate to Malta

I did a little research and I think the guys are interested in building a surfing community, OK that's good and if you are able to get work there, your criteria are met!
You will also have a better chance of having surf than on a short visit.

Learning to surf there will require assistance, there doesn't seen to be any schools or board rentals and you need to be self sufficient in swimming in surf conditions.
Please link up with someone, as without beach and surf knowledge , surfing is dangerous !

If they were to build a surfing community that would be perfect, for me that is haha
I read a little here and there that there MIGHT be opening a surfing school, but since I couldn't really track whether or not there would (which is more likely they would if enough people surf around there). I'm assuming that if the guys at http://www.surfmalta.com or the lady with the blog are interested (and assuming that no one in this forum are in fact surfers on Malta) we could meet up and they could teach me (free or for cash). Wouldn't wanna get hurt like you said. I never really thought of it as dangerous, at least not in the beginning when I'm just trying to gain balance and learning to get on the smaller waves?

I swim fine, used to compete when I was younger. But better safe than sorry I guess ^^

Looking at this page http://www.wannasurf.com/spot/Europe/Malta/index.html there are supposed to be areas for both beginners and experienced surfers, but then again I can't really read much out of it. What do you think Jaffa1949?

And I still haven't found out if there are any people here with experience and tips on surfing in Malta (shout out if you guys are here please)

Kat , I do know there are surfers in Crete and other Mediterranean islands and there will be days that suit, just not the ideal and more frequent opportunities of the full surf zone.
The girl in the blog and the community on Malta get in among them, they most likely know each other and probably share rides and surf time.

Getting in among an almost new surf culture is quite exciting, should be fine!
