Planning a surf trip to Nicaragua in late June, never been there. I'm looking at a few surf lodges but there like 2 grand for a week. Any feed back on the area would be a great help. I saw some pretty cheap apartment and room rentals. How difficult is it to get early am boat rides if your not at one of the camps. Just trying to decide if I should spend the 2 grand or fend for myself. Also wondering if I should wait till August as far as conditions.
Thanks
Craig

We fended for ourselves and did just fine. We stayed in Colorados, very central, and used a rental to get around. If you want to rent a boat they are available at a couple of spots we drove as close to playgrounds as we could (about 45 minutes from colorados) and found a small fishing village, they rented us a panga for $125, we split it 3 ways, cheaper than other spots because of how close we where. All other breaks, including popoyo, were accessible by car.

Craig, if you are still going, respond to this and i'll add in my 2 cents, I own a camp/hostel in el salvador at a very nice hollow right point break, if you are going to popoyo for the lefts, so be it. for sure no robbery here...near Las Floras surf, but my spot is better maybe not as expensive 3k+ 10day, but closer to a better wave. June has been Awesome, july looking good and august too. <edit>
THe advice given in response is good, just wing it, do you know any Spanish? in el Salvador we use US money...our place 1.25 for a beer! Pilsner not bad.
