Traveling without a board bag....

Postby Bicoastal » Sun Mar 14, 2004 4:47 am

Alright, I have a 7'6" board and no board bag. I live in NJ but go to school in CA and I want to bring my board back and forth but I don't have a board bag right now....does anyone know of any good idea as an alternative. I've heard if you tape some packing around it and stuff it into a sleepingbag and tape it shut that it should work out fine....but sounds sketchy. I've never really looked inside of one of the FCS or similar board bags to see how much padding they give. Any ideas? thanks

Hi

You probably have a good idea of what damages a board and where the danger areas are so...

make sure you have lots of padding around the tail, fins, nose and to a lesser extent, rails.

I would look to buy a proper bag if I were you - ideally something with 10mm padding. If $$ are a problem, try looking for a second hand bag. Lots of shops get trade in board/bag combinations and wind up with a bag that looks worn but still does the job. My friend got one for his 7'10 minimal for £15 (around $20) and it's fine.

Alternatively, the sleeping bag thing works OK, just be careful of the zipper scratching/ getting squashed into the glass!

Cheers
