Hi,

My girlfriend and I are planning a road trip in February-April in the West Coast.
I am a surfer from Israel, my level is average, I'm surfing on a big Funboard.
I'm searching for good surfing spots which will fit my style - relaxed long/funboarding.
The route is:
San diego - LA - Road no.1 - San Fransisco.

I will be glad to get surfing spots recommendations, and information and tips about surfboard rentals.
Thank you, Dan

I haven't surfed in SoCal for a long time so take my advice with a grain of salt. If you're in doubt about the area, then I'd recommend you pay for a private lesson with an instructor who knows the local vibe and can take you to the right place for your ability (maybe you'll pick up some skills as well). You can always try to find a surf group to go out surfing with (Meetup.com)

Big Funboard spots:

SoCal
Doheny (Dana Point)
San Onofre
Mondos
Huntington Beach

Central Coast (friendly atmosphere)
Pismo Beach
Morro Bay

San Fran area
Cowells (Santa Cruz)
Lindemar (Pacifica) fun learner's beach)
I'd avoid Ocean Beach unless you're in great shape (strong current, crazy shorebreak, difficult to paddle out. it's just a bit on the treacherous side . . .)
