Hey

I need some help here. Hopefully there are some good ideas in the community :)

I'm going on a trip the last weekend (thurs-sun) of september with the wife. I'm hoping to go somewhere where I can surf a fair bit. Ideally, I want to go somewhere near a major town/city so the travel time isn't prohibitive. That sort of rules out Biarritz for example which takes 8 hours to get to from norway where I live (no direct flights and via paris by train just takes too damn long).

Anyone have any good ideas where I should go? Ericeira is an obvious choice, but is not an option since my wife finds it boring (I like it).
Open to all countries in Europe in theory.

Hi,
How are the connections to San Sebastian in Spain? Or Bilbao? San Sebastian is a beautiful city with a huge ocean promenade and a beautiful beach and the surf around the area is not too shabby either. Bilbao is in driving distance and all the cheap airlines from the UK and Continental Europe go there. Alternatively, you could fly to Lanzarote or Fuerte if you can get direct flights there?

I heard about San Sebastian and did some research about it. The city looks beautiful, it will be in my list. But I think it will be as you said, the transport isn't brilliant. There's no direct flight.

Maybe Hossegor?

Hi,
What about Cascais, Portugal? Good surf spots, 30 minutes from Lisboa airport, near from Ericeira (1h) where you can always go surfing, near from Sintra where you can go to visits all monuments and attractions (UNESCO World Heritage). Cascais is well-known for its beaches and cosmopolitan atmosphere. It is a town with a long history in Portuguese surfing with some well-known waves like Guincho and Carcavelos, both of which used to welcome every year stages of the World Surf Tour, Cascais Women's Pro from 22 to 28 Sept (wct) and Cascais Billabong Pro from 28 Sept to 04 Oct (wqs).

All the best and good waves!

Hey!
We're kinda suspect, but Praia Grande, Sintra, is a great place to mix surfing and family historical trips.

We have an eco-camping 5 minutes away from Praia Grande and 20 minutes away from Guincho, Cascais. And because it has a bus stop at the door it's really easy and cheap to get to Sintra where you'll find some of the most beautiful monuments in Portugal to visit.

Of course that September is a rough time to surf in Portugal. You'll surely find some big waves, but you can always go surf to Estoril if you want to.
Lisbon is 40 minutes away also.
So check us out!

Quinta7Nomes, it’s just fantastic place you suggested, it had a trip to Europe last month, but unfortunately never got time to visit these kind of places, but in near future I am going again, so will definitely give it a try… Praia Grande, Sintra, is definitely the best place for surfing!

Baleal, Peniche, Portugal, It is a great choice. World Cup back in late October, but until then there are still many waves for surfing. This is an area in expansion, but you can still find idyllic and tranquil places. after August is the perfect time to visit .
