Fiji Trip - May 2015

Hey guys!

I am going to a surf trip to Fiji with a friend this Thursday (8/05).

We are both intermediate surfers, with some experience in reef waves (he has surfed G-Land, Samoa... I've surfed Lakey Peak, Padang, Uluwatu...), with overhead to double overhead waves.

We are looking forward to surfing Cloudbreak and Frigates, and maybe some of the other waves there.

I've just checked the forecast, and I found this:

A big swell is coming the day after we arrive. Waves from 8-12 ft. The conditions look perfect, but if the waves are actually 12ft (I don't know what scale magicseaweed uses, but I imagine it around triple overhead) it will be too much for us.

My question is: Do you know any other breaks that would be easier to surf than Cloudbreak? Maybe a wave where the reef isn't too shallow, or gets less swell...

Then, when the swell gets a bit smaller (overhead or a bit over that) we can try cloudbreak...

Also, any other travel tips for Fiji? Cheap places to stay, things to do besides surfing, etc... We are planning to travel as cheap as possible, so no big resorts in the islands.

Wilkes , lighthouse, swimming pools, Namotu , all the same area, Sigatoka River mouth area.

You can access by boat from Momi area,
Go,watch. Fire walking, drink kava it won't be cheap, Fijian prices not cheap the whole of Fiji is a resort island.
Prejudiced comment here but true , lots of Indian traders running scams. If you can, deal with Fijian families.

There are River treks up the Sigatoka river, go to a Rugby union match. Fijian style
