Indo/Pacific surf location with paddle-friendly breaks

Postby pihadave » Thu Apr 02, 2015 1:49 am

A group of us are planning on heading away sometime and I'm the only one that surfs. Are there any places anyone can recommend that have breaks within paddle distance so I can sneak out early before the rest of the group wake up? The only one I can think of is Bali (Keramas etc).

They were thinking of going to Tahiti or Fiji - are there any paddle-friendly spots there that anyone knows of? I only know of boat-access only breaks..

Depending what the others want , there are other options in Indonesia but if they want rabid nightlife then Bali it is, Kuta, Legian, or Seminyak.
If you want to chill and just hang then Nusa Lembongan four spots to choose from .
You could look at resorts and hotels on the Bukit penisula but crowded and frothy .
There are boutique stays on the Bukit too and just a quick access to the surf below.
I can suggest further afield, or Samoa.
This is not a good move on your part, non surfers do not understand the need to surf or the harm done to your psyche if you have to gaze at great surf whilst making social small talk.

There are quite a few easier to reach spots in Tahiti that are not death reefs and nearer to town too.
I would have suggested Breakas on Vanuatu but I'm not sure of the state of play after Cyclone Pam ( Breakas definitely fits the paddle out criteria) But no kids under 12.
Let me know what the non surfers want in the way of holiday.
Fiji has King Kong Island or on the Coral Coast, Hideaway resort with a paddle out right hander. A bit fickle.
I've taken up troll hunting just for fun, instead of a rifle I'll just use a pun! 冲浪爷爷
