Depends what you want. If it is pure surfing then Ericeira. If you want to do sightseeing then it will be Sintra.

Great, thank you so much and does it take a long to go to Sintra for some trip? If I do surf in Ericeira in the morning and then I would like to go to see Quinta da Regaleira, Palácio Nacional da Pena, Castelo dos Mouros and Cabo da Roca. Do you think it is possible? Do you have any experiences wit´h the company: Action waves?Thank you so much

They are really close, like 30-45mins drive so definitely possible. I would rent a car if I were you. The public transport isn't that great and renting a car in Lisboa airport is really cheap.

I haven't had any experiences with that company.

I have spent a bit of time in Ericeira.

My opinion is that the waves are generally not that good for a beginner, although there are plenty of surf schools that will take you out.

There were 4 main beaches that the learners seemed to be taken to depending on the conditions.

1 is in a little harbour and the waves there were nice and mellow. There is a surf shop in town which claims to have exclusive access to this break. I would say that this was the best option for a beginner. My girlfriend of the time had lessons with them and said they were good. Unfortunately I can't remember the name of the shop.

2 was rocky on the inside, and the only area in the shallows with no rocks was in the rip.

3 was sand bottom but very dumpy and not easy conditions for a beginner.

4 was ok in the corner if not too big, although it was over flat rock.

Ericeira is a nice place though, with some great restaurants in town.

Hi Veronika,
Ericeira its probably the best place to start surfing. Its true that have some beaches that they are not so good to start but also have really nice ones for beginners. You can always take a afternoon to go to Sintra for some sightseeing, it only takes 20 minutes drive.

We believe that Ericeira is a good choice. We have some surf experiences in Ericeira and also some accommodations/surf school partners. <edit>

All the best and good waves!

Ericeira is ok for beginners. Foz Do Lizandro is where I would go.
