Find the guys that go Tanker surfing in Step Into Liquid. That looks like it'd be fun. :D

ask gulfsurfer... pm him, he is the one who lives down there. SP is good, drive down the beach and find a good sandbar, same with mataogora and mustang, but if you don't want to do that then horace caldwell and bob hall piers are good places to start.

ya the best place when its good is south padre, but horace caldwell and bob hall are both good places. If you're a beginner, its best to stay away from the piers untill you can control your board. Matagorda gets sick when its on, i hope you like sharks though, but its pretty sharky everywhere around here. Theres a few more places, but you know what they say, If i told u, id have to kill you lol.
good luck

Oh and no, its not the best in the area, if theres surf in surfside, it will probably be much better in matagorda. But surfside still has some good days.

ya i live in corpus christi and when u go surfin down here its either bob hall, or the jetties (mustang) and if u wanna make the drive horace caldwell is good to, but ya all three spots have good surf every now and on those big days u always have the choice of jumpin off something and easily goin into the line up instead of paddling yur arms off just to get out there ( jump off either of the piers and jettie - but not recommended to jump off the jettie if you dont go there alot, you really get cut up or u might land on a rock thats not visible because water is on top it)

I'm amazed how you say "no surf in Texas" after this week at Surfside, psh.

Kidding.

Woo, horrible horrible rips down here this week. I couldn't go out, though. Just watched as everyone got sucked into the coast guard boats. Hilarious, some people getting pulled by helicopters. I found it funny.

Yeah, definitley ALOT of people out during Katrina that had absolutley no business being on any wave bigger then knee high. Port A wasnt bad, i dont go to surfside anymore, too crowded, especially on hurricane swells, every kook in texas who owns a surfboard goes there and jetty jumps.
IF YOU CANT PADDLE OUT, YOU HAVE NO BUSINESS OUT THERE!

I lived in Houston from 95-97 and didn't step foot in the gulf. When you live 200 yards from Ocean Beach SF most of your life a two hour car ride to knee high surf isn't in the cards. A friend of mine from Santa Cruz, who also was stuck in Houston, told me it gets 'nice' in some places but nothing worth driving all day for.

I took up yoga.

I did love the Mexican food. I still have dreams about Chuy's.

Texas has some really good days, but it also has some bad days. I dont ever want to live anywhere else though. The surf community here is awesome, you dont have tons of pricks out in the water at all the spots, and its warm.
