Mate! You missed out the old school biggest and best!

Well it depends upon your location, if you can walk or skate that's obviously the best.
If you have to drive, it depends upon a variety of factors, how far, how many people, how many boards, how big are your boards, how are the roards, or are there roads, how fuel efficent is your vehicle(or how much fuel can you afford) ... this list is endless.
But, for me here in VB I want something that is big inside so I can take more than 1 board and then keep the extras locked up while I surf, has 4 wheel drive so I can drive to the best spots in the OBX, gets good fuel economy, and is simple mechanically (so I can fix anything that might break on a trip).
I have all of these qualities in my truck except one - it has lousy fuel economy.

Camper van - the only way to go
Okay, it takes hours to get there but once you're there, surf for a bit, have a brew, surf some more, get into some warm clothes in the van, crack open a cold beer, cook some grub, sleep, wake up to waves 10 feet away, start all over again....
You're all wrong...

station wagons are the best, throw a heap of boards in the back and still seat 5 people. 4 wheel drives can come in handy for getting to some surf points here in australia (e.g. north straddie) where its all sand roads.
however the best vehicle is your feet - live near the beach and dont worry about cars/utes/wagons etc.

i do enjoy a van. getting changed in feburary in the wind/rain/cold is no fun, and the toilets (whle delightfully clean) make me feel guilty for messing them up. so a van is nice.
