Hey guys, been a while. Hope you've all had prosperous wave filled winter.

I've been thinking of travelling to Costa Rica or Nicaragua during November to February but have recently discovered that the surf isn't particularly good at that time, true? what I'm looking to do is is travel somewhere cheap and warm with waves (who doesn't?) ideally i would like to not go to Bali (planning on going later in 2015 en route to oz but now realising thats one of the only options. Although it'll be rainy and dirty.

can anybody suggest anywhere different?

Cheers.

Distraught dan.

South Africa? Namibia if you are feeling quite brave. New Zealand if you can put up with their accents :D

Its 'off season' in India but apparently Sri Lanka, although not 'the season', still has some waves. Certainly cheap and even if there is no surf this area of the world is basically the most interesting place you can ever go to (in my opinion!)

Although I know nothing about them surf wise, what about Brazil? Will be summer so warm at least. Peru has some amazing waves (that I also know nothing about).

Where are you based? Obviously Sth Africa from the US isnt a cheap trip.

Based in the uk dude. Easy access to most places.

For chatting to one of the lads at football who went to Peru last nov for 3 months believe it or not. Played with him for a year and never thought of asking him. Said it was sick. Looking to go there i think as a start and do Costa Rica also.

Sri Lanka seems cool, but very mellow. Not looking for double overhead tubes but probably will want more than 2foot after a month of surfing everyday.

Looking to go to bali then oz after the other places. Will check NZ out then.

Cheers for the reply.

Peru sounds good, it's worth travelling there even without the surf. Whereas Bali is, well, mostly a resort holiday island, with nice bits and no so nice bits. Rhodes without the heritage but with waves here and there.

I sure the Balinese would say something about the heritage comment, but the real motive is to ask one simple question ( actually two).
Dantastic asks a similar question each year so he gets seasonally affected disorder SAD ( which is real) . Question one; does he go somewhere each season :?: Question two; run out of money how does his holiday system work with no money :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: I want to know how that works. most SWers could use that.

Yeah, I probably should have said heritage around Kuta/Nusa Dua area (although I have been to the temples from 1000AD etc, so even that comment is not quite accurate). I guess, like Rhodes (trying to come up with a comparison understandable by a Brit!), there are areas of history and areas that are holiday camps (or holiday slums).

Good spot uncle Jaffa. One of the reasons I held back on this post was I didn't want to look like I get excited every time I have a bit of money or bored with work.

To justify your advice each time, I have split up with my girlfriend of 3 1/2 years as we didnt see eye to eye on the next stage of our lives. Me by the beach, her within 5 minutes drive of her mums house. I've moved into the smallest cheapest room I can find (£200 PCM inc bills, pretty cheap!) to save my nuts off. I am living on a mega budget and have managed to clear all debts and save a decent chunk. I'm 5 months from my target amount which will tie me nicely into November.

The long term plan is to travel as far and for as long as I can on £4.5k, not having been travelling before or anywhere this exotic I am after all the help I can get on pot work, volunteering stations, good waves and cheap digs etc.

Once penniless I will be back to the uk to collect my much more impressive bag of savings and looking to settle down in Australia for min 2 years on working visa but hopefully obtaining a 457 through bloody hard work and determination. There will be a month in Bali on the way, rude not too.

That's what my next 2 1/2 years look like. Feel free to chip in with any advice you have!
