I liked it so much I'm heading off in May for a 65th birthday treat 10 days surfing Nusa Tengarra in Indonesia. I had a great time there last year so like padang being so good you have to say it twice "Padang Padang" I'm going again.
I'd add to the map it is not a secret just a mission to get there!
In fact the whole region is not on the map! Let's just say West Timor, search and you shall find!

Namaste swaroopa, thank you for the kind wishes for my birthday and travels from your home in India, I hope you get experience Indonesia.
If your beliefs are Hindu much of the culture of Bali will make you feel at home.
I think Nehru called Bali the "morning of the earth" for how it was then, find time away from tourists, it still exists

Heyy Jaffa!!

Welcoming you to Indonesia. I think Canggu is better than Padang Padang?

Terima kasih , Fa I have been visiting Indonesia since about 1979. so lots of visits, Kuta beach was rice paddies and Jalan Legian was a dirt road. The trek to Uluwatu was hard, and there was only a little track to Padang.
(I think Padang is the better wave ) but is not as user friendly as Canggu.
I now stop over in Bali for flights to Nusa Tengarra Timur, Rote or to Padang in Sumatera to go to the Mentawais.
Usually I have about two days in Bali to visit a family I am a sort of Aussie Bapak to.
Their children are now grown up and raising families of their own.

Indonesia especially Bali is a very happy place for me, both for surf and my Indonesian family of friends :D

Will pick up my first surfboard at Ci, Bali. Feeeell greaaatt lol :D
but, i still doesn't have enough experience to surf in Canggu though.

Hi guys,
sorry if I'm intruding in the conversation, but I'm new to the forum and didn't want to open a new post.
I'm in Bali for two weeks and will stay for at least 2 months, I live in a family in the center of denpasar (street Hayam Wuruk) but I would take surfing lessons on Sundays. Do you know any school that makes a kind of "pick up" from home?
or something cheaper to be able to pay me also the taxi and not spend too much.
Thank you

GuendaR welcome, feel free to post wherever and whatever you feel would be a good question or advice, the family you are staying with would probably have a friend or relative who offers transport and they may know a surf school instructor too ask them.
One thing about Bali if you can work through family connections it keeps the money in the family and often they will work with you to get a fair price.
Bear in mind that Bali prices for normal things are very very cheap and we are comparatively rich.
They also understand that young travelers are often on a tight budget, talk to the family and see as your first option.

Enjoy and take care :D
