Hey guys, I'm a guy out of Ontario, Canada who has dreamed of surfing all his life and Im looking to book a trip in the next week to make this dream happen. I've never surfed before, but have skateboarded and snowboarded for years and consider myself in shape as well as a good swimmer. I'm looking to challenge myself and don't give up easy, the cheaper the better as well.

Any and all suggestions will be much appreciated!

Stay tuned for some videos

As cheap as possible I guess would be somewhere in the US. California is the obvious. Then there is Mexico and Central America. You really want to go somewhere you can get lessons - as a tip, when you skateboard or snowboard, you (a) dont start off laying down; (b) dont have the ground moving under you and (c) dont have any problems getting to the top of the hill (whereas with surfing you need to get out to the waves and catch the waves coming in).

So snowboard and skateboarding is good once you are standing up. But 90% of surfing occurs laying down and learning positioning and so forth.

Just to remind you that you almost certainly wont just be picking up a board, heading into the surf and carving. So 2 or 3 lessons to start - or even just one - is important. So find somewhere that has lessons (which is almost everywhere there is surf).

I found a pretty good deal to Jaco Beach Costa Rica, what are your thoughts?
