Hello! I'm interested in surfing, but have never tried it before so I guess i should start somewhere safe & easy. So, does anyone know good surfing spots for beginners in sulawesi or Maluku? There should also be some surfing lessons available, of course... Thanks for any replies!

There are surf spots in Maluku but since it is off the surf trail it is unlikely there will be a surf school.
The season is different from the main archipelago and depends on Pacific swell on the east coast of north Malaku, south Malaku, lcoal swells or big sneakers making their way between across the Banda Sea
Sulawesi looks like it will get north swell from the south China sea, pretty much a new frontier>
What are your reasons for considering this area?

Thanks for answering!:) I'm travelling around Southeast Asia and just arrived to Sulawesi. I got interested in surfing when I was in Bali but didn't have time/money to learn to surf there. After Sulawesi and Maluku I'm going to travel to Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand. Would it be better idea to learn to surf in some of those countries?

Most of these areas are off the existing surf routes for quality surf but as a beginner both Vietnam and Thailand can offer up small at times.
I know during the unfortunate Vietnam war Aussies surfed there.
Thailand has some surf and perhaps a few enterprising surf schools.
Give us a report so others can follow!

Since I'm in Indonesia and I have the Stormrider (Low Pressure ) e book publication for Nusa Tengarra Indonesia I have discovered there is quite a few listed spots in the Moluccas as instated before. Worth a look to see what advice these books can give you.
That area is really out there!
