Surfing Waves

Ok.
So according to Magic seaweed there is a swell hitting the south coast this Sunday.
The nearest beech to me is Camber Sands, I've never heard of it as a surf spot but it's there nonetheless. I have read mixed reviews, so my question is this. Is it worth the effort? Is it a rideable wave or will I just waste my time getting down there?

Now thinking of heading to Brighton instead as I have at least seen people surf there so I know it's viable, and we know the town pretty well.

Brighton has a pier i believe so could be some nice fun!

Yeah, there is srufing at the Marina and the West Pier, but haven't done either. Just seen people down there once last winter.

Ive watched alot of videos of surfers at west pier, right between the rocks and the pier on the right (from the beach)

Hopefully we'll get down there.
If there are any locals that want to point us I. The right direction that's be nice too

when i get back to essex next year we will have to take a road trip

Didn't make it to Brighton last weekend as my van decided it needed new Glowplugs!
But they are done now and there is still a good forecast for this weekend so gonna try again, but have had some bad things abuot the locals in Brighton? Does anyone have any experience with Brighton locals? Are you a brighton local? We both just want to surf and have a good time I'm not looking to get into any scraps over territory.

If you're heading to Brighton, you don't want to just rock up at the beachfront by the pier - that's not where the surf is! Okay, sometimes it is, but not usually - if there is surf at the pier, the chances are it'll be a big blown-out mess.

There are two main spots - the first is by the marina, but this spot is very tricky and also there's a bit of localism there. Not recommended unless you really know what you're doing.

The other spot is 'hot pipe' which is just in front of the power station thingy to the west of brighton in Shoreham where the waves break over a pipe... that's hot... genius!
Whenever I've been there, it was a pretty relaxed crowd.

It's very tide dependent - if I remember rightly (only surfed it a couple of times, and that 7 or 8 years ago) its best around mid-tide to high tide as its coming in.



Right, that's enough thinking about winter UK surf for me, I'm off to find my boardies and then off for a paddle in 23C water

But 'Hot pipes' sounds cool. I'll check it out, cheers.
