Hi,
I started surfing a year ago in San Francisco and now I want to go for a month and practice on a daily basis on some decent waves. In SF I get to go once or twice a week to Lindamar beach it is hit or miss so I don't get to practice as much I want to.
I am thinking of going to Montanita in Ecuador since it's cheap over there and there are some good waves. Before booking my ticket I thought of asking this board to see if there were any other options any where around the globe which is relatively cheap and has got decent waves in November. I get to stand on the board but I need more waves to even get better and start turning on waves.
Thanks in advance
-Vahe

What, exactly, is a level 3 future surfer? How many levels are there? Are you surfing on the third floor? Have you got to the third level in Grand Surf Auto? What happened to the first two futures? Did someone misplace them?

This is answer to your question
http://bit.ly/1adIGJUBasically, I am catching unbroken waves and I don't like to call myself a surfer because I have my standards and don't think I have reached there yet so I called myself "future surfer".

south america is cheap, and nice weather is starting, check out surf seasons as some places might not have waves then

Roughly an hour and a half up the road is Santa Cruz. I moved here a year ago from Hawaii and from my 1 year experience in Santa Cruz it rocks in the fall/winter. Waves are not huge like Hawaii but I thought the fall/winter in Santa Cruz was super consistent. In fact the surf might be a bit big for your experience. The water is cold as hell but the waves are good especially if you are not a goofy foot. What I am saying is you don't have to travel so far to find good surf- you have some decent spots fairly close to you. Ocean Beach turns on but probably not a good learner spot especially if you don't like paddling. If you are set on a surf trip - I am jealous, especially if it's a month long and the waters warm. If you do book a trip plan on after day 4 or 5 , maybe sooner that you are going to need a break. 2-3-4 or 5 days in a row of nothing but surfing is going tough on the body. Nonetheless - you may have an adventure of a lifetime.

@surfhound: You are absolutely right. I thought about it too but I am still debating b/c I can stay in Montanita for $300 per month on the beach but I am not sure if I can find a place or hostel on the beach around Santa Cruz (haven't searched yet though). I went to Hawaii last year and I learned that after 4 days of surfing I couldn't move my shoulders on the fifth day! Good thing about Montanita is that It will be way warmer than SC but again I am not worried about the water as I surfed at Lindamar and kind of got used to the water;I just hope if I go it'll be sunny and not overcast. Still debating but I crossed off Nosara since November it's not the best time to go there and now I have Montanita, Puerto Rico and SC.

Yup, Santa Cruz is a great place. There is surf somewhere around there nearly all the time. When I lived in NorCAL I surfed there and was in a local club. I liked Jack's House/38th street/Pleasure point. These breaks will be good for you.
Another option is to go to San Onofre and Trestles in northern San Diego County. There are big, fat, slow swells at San O that provide rides as long as a minute.
Oh, another place I like and used to surf is in Mendocino County. The break is called Caspar Creek. When breaking, there are long, beautiful peeling waves. The water a pretty, translucent blue. It's cold and I like that!
There are good campgrounds at San O and Caspar Creek. I don't know about Santa Cruz, but they've got to have something. Fun note: the campground at Caspar Creek has wifi. I used it one Christmas to review a student's doctoral thesis in Germany while I was on a surfing safari.
P.S. Lindamar is pretty crummy, although it can be rough & fun on stormy evenings. If that is the only place you surf, I wouldn't spend the money to go all the way to Ecuador. You might really enjoy the places identified above.

@billie_morini: I definitely need wifi as I will be working most of the time but of course I can take a couple hour break and do my surfing.
