Vancouver Island surf??

I'm an Aussie surfer moving to Vancouver Island with my Canadian wife and kids in July. Can anyone out there be helpful enough to let me know the quality of surf, driving times from Victoria and what I'll need in terms of a wetsuit. Cheers

You know I have a feeling there is atleast one person here from Vancouver! But anyways, I'm down in the state below Vancouver and I'm pretty sure there are some decent waves up there (actually I've heard Canada has very nice surf spots, but cold!) I hope your move goes well, and let me know if you find anything up there!

I'm not much of a surfer but I have been to Tofino and Ucluelet on the pacific side of Vancouver Island. There were surfers there. Pacific Rim National Park area. Not crowded at all. Lots of big (huge) sand beaches with piles of driftwood/old trees well back from the water line. I'm sure the waves are very impressive in the fall/winter/spring. I was there in the summer and the waves looked pretty good. The water temperature probably tops out around 60 degrees f in summer and maybe low to mid 40s f in winter. Tofino is a nice place. Good restaurants. Not cheap. Kind of a Vancouver/Victoria yuppie hangout type place. Ucluelet is a low-key, nice Indian fishing village.

Probably takes 2.5 to 3 hours driving from Victoria. Nice drive but watch for the BC police with their radar guns.
