Surfing Waves

hey there

im ben, 21yo and new in this forum

in a couple of days starts my surftripp from brisbane to sydney. im a beginner, but determined to get as much practice as possible. i found a list of good spots:

* Duranbah/Rainbow Bay/Greenmount (Gold Coast, Queensland)

* Caloundra, Alexandra Headland (Sunshine Coast, Queensland)

* Byron Bay, Evans Head, Yamba, Scotts Head, South West Rocks (North NSW, recommended)

* Merewether Beach, Shelly Beach, Avoca Beach, Terrigal Beach, Copacobana Beach, North Narrabeen, Manly Beach, Bondi Beach (Central Coast NSW, HIGHLY recommendend!)

any other tipps?
how difficult is it to sell a beginner board in sydney, are there any shop who buy and sell occasion boards?


by the way, if have a van so if any one would like to join me for a while let me know.

Hi,
Caloundra/Alex Heads are NORTH of Brisbane on the Sunshine Coast, so if you are driving South, you can scrap them off your list.
There is a break about just about every 10-20km starting from the Gold Coast South all the way to Sydney, sometimes even every km, so you can stop anywhere and get good surf depending on winds and swell direction. As a beginner, I would avoid all point breaks and crowded areas and look for beachbreaks only, find a peak that isn't crowded and practice.
I would drive the coastal route from Tweed Heads to Byron and check Cabarita/Kingscliff on the way, also Lennox Heads/Ballina area south of Byron is good. Enjoy.

One small word of caution is that because you've named a lot of famous surfing spots, you'll be in amongst crowds and/or up against localism. To take one example, Narrabeen has got a reputation for localism - unlikely there'd be any real trouble but if you paddle out there as a beginner, show the locals some respect.

Easy. If you're finishing up in Bondi, just stick it on Gumtree and it'll be gone in minutes. The surf shops will often take secondhand boards, but don't expect to get the best price that way.

I think sydney is one of the best place to surf.

That's nice Micheal,"one of the best place to surf" so much choice 36 named surf spots in the northern beaches alone, a similar number southside + a few in Sydney harbour, which of those would you recommend for beginners?

I often find these guys post a lot of semi informed stuff and then hook a troll in, usually on old resurrected posts, sometimes I check their IPS address and it often coincides with serial spammers, under several pseudonyms:bang: One of my approaches is to ask a question with a little bit of bite back, if they answer I then work with them a lot to draw out their experiences for others in a similar boat!

I love the stuff you post as it is very informative an offers choices so people know what they are getting into!
Genuine newbies have a lot to offer as they are somewhere, we might have forgotten in their surfing journey, and that I always bear in mind!
