How consistent is Waikiki in December?

Hello everyone,

I'm leaning towards a surf trip to Waikiki for 3 weeks in December. My main concern is the consistency of the waves at Waikiki. We don't plan to rent a car but do plan to stay in Waikiki, so we would be going to waves within walking distance of Waikiki. Ideally we'd like to surf 6 hours a day every day...we are beginners, but hope to improve enough on this trip to open up our surfing options to intermediate level breaks for our next trip. So we are hoping to pack in as many hours surfing as possible in Waikiki, which would depend on there being waves to surf everyday :)

The other surf destinations we are considering are Ecuador and Peru. I think we'd be much more mobile to get to good waves there because its much more affordable to get around. But I've heard Waikiki has wonderful waves so I'm also very interested in going there if they r consistent.

Thanks in advance!

December isn't a good time to be in Waikiki wavewise. This is the time of the big North Shore swells that batter the Northern coastlines. You might get some tiny waves if you are lucky but it might as well be totally flat. Waikiki's swell season is the Northern Hemisphere summer months from June-Sept. Plus it will be mentally crowded as well, as it's prime time for Waikiki for people escaping their winters wherever they'll be from and expensive as hell for accommodation.
I did reply to your Ecuador/Peru question by the way.
I think you should look at Costa Rica, Southern Nicaragua or Mexico as well if you travel in December, all have a good beginner set up with surf schools and board rentals.

Well Waikiki is known for its year round friendly breaks. Surfing six hours a day well probably not happen just because your muscles aren't used to it.
