Hey guys,
I quite a beginner and I always wanted to come to Costa-Rica , unfortunately the only time available for me is september-october. I've heard alot of conflicting stories about that time of year.
Some say its raining all day , the see is full of debris and the surf is bad and all the stores are empty. Others say there is rain but no problem to surf and its even better. And others say that in the north region Guanacaste there is less rain and better surf spots.
Could you please tell me if this is a good place to come for a beginner ? and also if there are still tourists and night life in that time .
Also do you recommend another place instead of costa rica that has lots of surf spots and some kind of social/night light?
thank you very much

I would say google Surf Simply, they have a surf resort there that caters for everything. If you have the cash and want to socialise with other beginner surfers then that is where i would go. Do it!

October is not going to be much of a party in Nosara, Costa Rica. Pretty heavy rain, although thin crowds is nice.
Lots of businesses close in that area of Costa Rica. So september or November might be a better option.
have fun

Depending on the area, if you go to the pacific September and October are good for surfing but is raining season, so it´s not the best month for going there.

I was for around 2 months from mid March to mid May 2014. Guanacaste is the driest region so you'll have the best luck staying in that region. I wouldn't really recommend Tamarindo which is the most popular destination as from what we saw the surf was pretty poor and we weren't massive fans of the place itself, its very Americanised so you don't really experience the Costarican culture there but it depends what your after. We did stay in Avellanas for a couple of weeks at Casa Surf Hostel
http://casa-surf.com/ the guys that run the hostel are awesome. The beach break would be best suited for your ability, you might struggle on bigger days but when the waves are 2-4ft I think it would be quite well suited to you (although its hard to tell as the sand banks move about a lot so conditions are always changing). Although you might feel a bit isolated in Avellanas, Casa Surf is a small hostel and i the only budget option I'm aware of down there. I think it would be likely you'd be the only one in the hostel for at least part the time there and there is virtually nothing to do other than surfing.
