Hi, I´m traveling to the USA this summer. We are going to drive along the east coast, NYC all the way to Miami. Stopping on places like Myrtle Beach, Orlando and Miami for one week. Is there any places i also should visit while I´m traveling? Is it good for a beginner to start surfing at Myrtle Beach and "work" my way to Miami? Excuse my bad english(I´m Norvegian)

Hi Chris,
I used to live on the Atlantic seaboard and frequently traveled, fished, boated, etc. in the ocean in NY, NJ, MD, VA, NC, SC, GA, and FL. The way I see it, with the exception of one location on NY's Long Island and one location in NC's Outer Banks, the entire Atlantic coast is a beginner's surf break. The surf at Myrtle Beach is not very good, even for someone who has never surfed. Maybe try Long Island or go straight to VA (anything on Assategue Island), then a couple of breaks in NC (Cape Hatteras, Buxton, and Wrightsville areas), see what you find at Myrtle Beach, and definitely plan to surf at Cocoa Beach in FL. There is a nice fat, slow moving hump of a wave on the south side of the pier there.
You also inquired about "any places" you should visit. Is your question about surf breaks or sights to see? If sights to see, I will try to help with that, too.
