Planning a year round surf trip??

Hey guys,

I am a bodyboarder, I hope this is cool with all on this forum. We all ride waves for the thrill and adventure and love for water. And this forum seems to have the most depth in knowledge.

So to my reason for posting this. In a year or so, I am planning to drop everything in Australia and travel the world to see all things and surf breaks all over the world. My trip will begin from Jan/feb and go till december. I was hoping you guys could give me some direction on where to begin my trip and where to go to depending on the seasons/conditions for surf in different parts of the world where it is the best.

I hope i've articulated my point clearly, hoping you guys can help and give me some direction.

Cheers,

Joey

That's great Joey, so as a boogey body are you into slabs, death pits or good mellow stuff? That will help us advise you, there is no craft prejudice, it's all based on attitude and the best attitude i think we subscribe to is fun!
Some of the European countries have a strong body board crew, I'm thinking the Canaries and some parts of Spain and Portugal.
Remember for you every surf is overhead  As you prepare post a sort of diary help other follow your adventures :!:

hi jaffa,

cheers for getting back to me. I'm into all types of waves, mainly though reef, point breaks, and beachies. Fast, hollow waves i love, however slabby ones scare me when they get to big, so around the 3-4ft mark for them. But all others i don't mind around the 6ft mark, 8ft the absolute maximum but even then.

I will definitely keep a journal. I'm in the beginnings of organising it all, but would love insight from others on where to go first and then advice to continue my trip following the best surf.

So almost wanting like a little itinerary and then awesome locations worldwide and specific beaches and what season they peak in. Ive already planned that indo will be on the last leg of my trip as it is nearest to home. Im thinking of either starting south america or europe, going in Jan/feb.

cheers.

Hi joey,
I am a surfer not a boadyboarder, but I did a similar trip in 2008, using the QANTAS 5 continents airpass. I had a list of waves that I wanted to surf, so that helped me with the planning. I flew to Chile from Sydney first, then worked my way up to coast via flights and buses overland via all the surf spots that interested me all the way to Ecuador, flew to Panama, then overlanded it to Mexico along the Pacific Coast, flew to Spain, did Spain and France, flew to South Africa, then onto Indo and back to Oz. I went for 10 months and hit most countries in prime surf season that way. Hope this might help, but you really need to do your own research on all the waves you want to surf. I planned this trip for almost 5 years, not saying your planning needs to be anywhere that long but you need solid info on waves/transport options/where to stay etc etc. Some countries were quite dodgy and not easy o travel through. Good luck. You will have so much fun.
