Don't surf near seals, don't surf whilst bleeding, don't pee whilst surfing, don't surf near bait fish schools, don't surf in dirty run out water don't surf after big floods, don't surf near dead whale with bite marks, don't surf near deep dark gutters or drop offs even though they can generate the best surf, don't surf around dawn and dusk but those times don't always matter to sharks.
You won't even see the shark that chooses to do a serious attack on you. They don't even have the courtesy to play the jaws music as a prelude to attack
Be careful in the traffic to and from the beach that is where you are more likely to get killed.
More people get killed by bee stings than sharks.

Hope that helps

If there are lots of dolphins and birds feeding near you together, get out.

I think Jaffa meant to say that rivermouths are sketchy as well.

And Jaffa's driving part is the biggest one, drive safely.

River mouths especially after floods and heavy rains, if the sharks don't get you , infection from dog poo washed down the drains ! :!:

I thought I'd post this link from Swellnet for several reasons, ithe blurb presented by shark shield is not entirely accurate and there have been occasions where users have been attacked.
The article and video attached will give potential users some food for thought.
It is also concerning that the information about trials had to be gained by freedom of information claims.

Here is the link; http://www.swellnet.com.au/news/3228-ne ... don-t-work

The shield may well work sometimes and may be useful but a bit like surf leashes ( being relied on when you can't swim) they could be false assurance and encourage you to surf in areas where the attack risk is higher!

The attack risk is still exceedingly low but unfortunate if it does happen!

See my other post but the short answer is, if a shark wants to eat you it will, you wont see it coming and you have to die at some point - there are worse ways (prolonged cancer), so don't worry about it.

Oh I should qualify - that doesn't mean be a bloody idiot about it, if you see a shark - you should probably get out of the water.

If you don't want to watch the whole clip, you'll find the answer at 19:15 min.

I agree with Jaffa "don't pee whilst surfing" I never do :)
