Soft racks on rental cars in Florida...

I suspect I could simply sneak back around to the egress area and load, but have you heard if there are any No-No's about loading atop the roof of an Avis? Thanks.

Hello Wetstuff,
You could just check with the rental agency if you are worried about it. I am sure the rental car policies differ from place to place. Watch out for cars with a extremely soft roofs, as sometimes the soft racks can dent the top of the car. Most people that rent boards from us using rental cars are just careful with how they load the boards on, as you are responsible to return the car in the same condition it was when you rented it.

I know Avis rents roof racks in some states for carrying snow skis. If rack rental is available where you are going, then you know Avis will want you to rent from them. Best to call them as Tony G suggested above. If they don't have racks, then you're better positioned to bring your own.

In Costa Rica and Panama .. it was no big deal - all rentals seem to have done duty in Bagdad before they got to Cent Am.

Billie - Tough to talk to them about ski racks in FL without tipping my hand or getting put on a 'Do Not Rent' list. At LAX you can pretend you're going to Big Bear instead of Malibu.

In Puerto Rico I simply let a 7-0 hang out the back window, but I will be carrying a serious Log to Florida. ..maybe I can specify a 'hatchback'? I will be traveling alone. Still.. if someone has cartop'd out of Orlando or MIA I would be interested to hear.
