Hi there!
Would like to know about surfing in Morocco in April.
We are two russian girls...not beginners, but not professional surfers))) We wanna go to Agadir this April. But we don't want to book a hotel or that kind of stuff...We would like to camp somewhere on the beach (better wild one) and live in a tent for a week or so. So the questions are: has anybody experienced something like that? Isn't it dangerous? Or is it allowed to camp on the beach? And what waves are in Agadir in April? And can we buy used surf board there? And will we need wetsuits? And can we buy them also there? Or maybe some of you know good campings near spots?
Thanks)))

www.surfstarmorocco.com they are a fantastic surf camp with really good people. If you want to buy a board there you can try the local surf shops in taghazout. April swell is good for your level you will enjoy it!

lifelover, I'm sorry you are not getting any actual help, just posts from spammy surf camps looking for a bit of free advertising.
Perhaps someone could offer some impartial advice?

Hi, I have been to Morocco a few times to the Agadir area. Dont forget you will be in a muslim country where woman are suppressed, so if you go cover up and sleeping on any beech is a definite no-no.
You'll find that you will draw enough attention in the day alone, from over "friendly" (smarmy) blokes who wont stop pestering you.
Find yourself a good surf camp, there are several in Tagazoute. Surf Berber run by a sound English guy called James or Surf Maroc just up the road.
In April the surf season is pretty much over so you might be able to find some good deals.
You'll need a 3/2 wetty, take your own stuff, it's very behind there.

Thanks surfguy, it is so much better to hear real advice about a country and its surf rather than just spam about specific websites over and over whilst they pretend they have just discovered this wonderful ...........
I would not recommend sleeping on a beach for a women in a Muslim country, even in Indonesia or in non Muslim Pacific Islands it is asking for at least harassment or trouble of the worst kind. Even in Australia it could be problematic.
Unfortunately the social signals we give out are do not necessarily mean the same thing in other countries.

The best time to surf in morocco is in winter October- early march but it is possible there will be surf in morocco in may but likely to get surf in morocco in the winter months. The water in morocco never tends to drop lower than 16-17 degrees Celsius at any time so you should be ok with a summer suit in may.

There's a lot of practical information about
Morocco on the Lonely Planet website. There's also a short paragraph about women travellers and annoyances faced by them, including sexual harrassment, leering and unwanted advances, that kind of thing.
Morocco is on my list of surfing destinations but if I go, it will be to a surf camp.

Hi,
Was just there in June. You'll need a wetsuit. Most rental suits will be pretty grubby. Didnt look at buying any as my camp was good and had nice suits. You can rent boards but they are quite poor in taghazoute. I brought my own. My camp has plenty of decent boards and suits as part of their package.
There are waves inApril. Even in june we got nice waves to longboard on. Devils rock and crocro are decent at high tide and mellow and fun. Go early to beat the schools arrival if you can. Others work too but are more swell dependent.
Dont camp on the beach. Im not even sure the campsite near there is open. Youll need transport to get around and the drivers are nuts.
I stayed at moroccan surf adventures and had a great time. Will be going back again for sure. Awesome crew, new friends for life.

Enjoy your trip!!!
