Surfing Waves

I just learned how to surf in Hawaii last week and am hooked. Although the water is like 10+ degrees colder than in Hawaii, I'd like to hit up some of the OC beaches. Any suggestions? Surfline says San Onofre and Doheny are good ones but I'd like to get some of your opinions.

heya. i learned to surf with my gf this past summer and we have been surfing at san onofre and mission beach. i would def recommend san onofre for learning. (more specifically the south part of the beach by the volleyball courts)

the people at san-o are the nicest people ive ever met and they really encourage everyone to learn and have a great time. just remember to wear your booties unless you want to risk it like i did and tear out a chunk of your foot by unluckily stepping on a sharp rock. hence, my name.

i havent tried doheney yet but my friends and i always eat breakfast near there after a catching some morning waves at san-o. let me know how it is if you go.

I'm a beginner as well but I find that San Onofre is a great place to surf. The people are really nice and they have spots for different types of surfers if you feel like a bit more of a challange. Try old mans, I surf just south of there and normally the surf is just perfect for me. However my boyfriend has a little more trouble there then me , so I dunno, it's just an opinion.

wow.....SHUTUP. lol

I recommend San Onofre, the people are friendly and talk to you, sometimes giving you advice. San O is where I learned to surf, in San Clemente. Make sure you don't go to Bolsa Chica though.

Other than booties (thanks myfoothurts), do you guys / girls where any other gear, e.g. wetsuits?

Are there any local board shops by the beach where I can rent a board?
