Where to set up camp in France!

Hi everyone,

Hoping to get some advice on where in France would be a good base to set up for a week or 2, I have never been, have looked through the forum but havn't really found the answers. We are driving over from Ireland the end of may for 2 weeks, know very little about the details of the area's. From what I've read Hossegor and beyond sounds a bit hectic with crowds surfing and partying? What's it like further north from Lacanau down? Would it be less crowded but still good surf up that way? Would like to find a campsite with good surf very nearby and maybe a few other options for when the surf's no good to set up for the first week or so then maybe drive further south or stay there for the 2 weeks if it was a good spot. If anyone could share there own experiences of the area's or recommend any campsites on the coast, or if the surf is far superior further south are there any nice quiet-ish campsites down down that way? Also is there a need to pre-book the campsites for that time of year,

Thanks for any advice.

Montalivet les Bains would be a good one. There are several camping sides, some even almost on the beach. Usually the waves fine. I've been there in May in 2010. The day we arrived there were perfectly shaped barrels. The coming 3 days weren't bad either, but the last 3 were flat.

Hossegor would be a very good choice. Mimizan is another village with campingsides, and you could try Capbreton as well.

Hope this helped you
