surfing in the dominican republic?

has anyone advice on the domincan republic?
i heard of a place near cabarete, called playa encuentro where the waves are supposed to be rideable.
i'm a beginner so i don't neet anything big to have fun.

Sosua and Cabarete you can surf but from what i rember i wasnt surfing when i went there i just dived but from what i gather you can surf them and there not to far from where you are i dont think

and watch the locals they aint very friendly
