Help: Nicaragua beaches and hotels

I'm planning to surf Nicaragua in April.

I already started doing some searches, but if you've stayed at some hotels that have good break please post where you stayed, what town and what beach if possible, that way I can start looking to book my hotel in advance. I might rent a car and travel up and down the coast on day trips, not sure yet.

Thinking of taying near Pochomil and drive daily from there (and probably do a boat charter since I am told it is the shizzle), but I really aren't sure.

Thanks in advance.

Mike

While I was Nicaragua I based myself in San Juan Del Sur, super touristy town but a great base to meet fellow surfers which was my goal as I left friends behind in Honduras.

Playa Maderas is the closest break to San Juan, consistent beach break & super fun!

We also had a few good sessions @ Yankee which is a little further south from Maderas. Again, consistent beach break which can get pretty hollow!

That's all I can give you bud, Didn't get up to Popoyo but I hear great things!

Enjoy your trip & salute a Toña for us will ya!

I would stay more north of SJDS. most of the best surf is between Gigante and Astillero. there are a coupel big resorts that dont get crowded and have killer surf. if you have a car i would stay at Rancho Santana. you can find cool places around that area (Tola) at http://www.theitraveler.com check it out and let me know if you have any other questions.

Hey Mike,

My name is Bryce, and I own Giant's Foot Surf in Gigante, Nicaragua. The resort-y developments in our area are Hacienda Iguana in front of Colorados, and Rancho Santana in front of Santana. Our surf camp is in Gigante bay, and offers all-inclusive meals, drinks, airport transfers, and unlimited boat sessions to the breaks between San Juan del Sur and Astillero.

Since you are looking at April, we have a last minute deal going if you come between April 1st and 15th. Groups of two or more surfers get our lowest offered price of $800/pp for 7 days, 6 nights.

Check out our website at http://www.giantsfoot.com or email us at info@giantsfoot.com for more information if you are interested.

Good luck in your search.
