Hi,
I am living since 3 years here in the DR and managing the Apartment Hotel Hooked Cabartete. We are located at Playa Encuentro (Cabarete) which is the main surfbeach on the north coast. From November - April is the winterseason and good Northatlantik swells hit the North Coast of the DR. The town Cabarete is famous for wind -and kitesurfers due to really good windconditions in the summer but also the surf is really good here. We have waves nearly all year around with the hurrican season in the summer (August-Oktober) and the main surfseason from Nov-April where the waves also can get big some days. Playa Encuentro is the most well known surfbeach which also has a few surfschools and different surfbreaks for surfers of all level. Along the North Coast there are a couple of other spots such as PLaya Grande / Playa Preciosa for example.
Have a look at our website
http://www.hookedcabarete.com to see more information and pictures about the surf and the place here. I frequently post pictures from the surf here on our facebook profile:
https://www.facebook.com/HookedCabarete.
Just let me know if you have any specific questions about the surf or anything here.
Aloha from Hooked Cabarete

Location: Caribbean, eastern two-thirds of the island of Hispaniola, between the Caribbean Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean, east of Haiti
Coordinates: 19 00 N, 70 40 W
Coastline: 1,288 km
Language: Spanish
Safety: Due to the recent unrest in neighbouring Haiti and the ongoing unpredictability of the security situation, it is inadvisable to travel across the border to Haiti. There is a low terrorism risk and incidences of violent crime are infreqent. Visitors should take normal precautions against petty crime, however.
Communications: The international access code for the Dominican Republic is +1, in common with the US, Canada and most of the Caribbean, followed by 809. The outgoing code is 011 followed by the relevant country code (e.g. 01144 for the United Kingdom); the outgoing code is not required for calling North America. The local mobile phone operators use GSM networks and have roaming agreements with most major international operators. A bilingual operator can be reached by dialling 0. Direct international calls can be made from numerous telecommunications centres located in all towns and cities. Internet cafes are available in the main towns and resorts
Climate : The Dominican Republic has a tropical maritime climate with trade winds moderating the heat. The wet or rainy season is from May to November in the south and from December to April in the north. Hurricanes can also occur between June and November. In general, rainfall is heaviest in the north and diminishes towards the south and west. Average annual precipitation varies between 1,390 mm (55 inches) and 1,520 mm (60 inches). Average temperature ranges in Santo Domingo are from 19 to 29 degrees Celsius (66 to 84 degrees Fahrenheit) in January to 23 to 31 degrees Celsius (73 to 88 degrees Fahrenheit) in August.
