i heard on another forum (which i can't find now) a section nicknamed the "red triangle" in cali. we are planning our first surf trip to southern cali, and i wanna be sure to avoid this area. i've never surfed outside of texas, so i'm a little nervous about surfing in cali because of the sharks. we've got bulls and tiger sharks here, but great whites are a whole nother story.

The triangle is in Nor-Cal, it goes from Halfmoon Bay out to the Farallon islands and up to Tomales Bay. Ive surfed this area for 20 years and have never seen a shark. You should be nervous about the surf not the sharks.

i hate to tell u, but bulls are worse than greatwhites. im from texas too, and surf matagorda and port a. in matagorda i was wadefishing, and was knocked over in about 3 feet of water by a 7 ft bull shark. luckily he didnt get a bite outta me but it still scared me. the best thing to do is jus surf and try not to think about it, its when u start thinking about it that u start freaking out, and dont pay attention to the wave then ull get worked. have fun in so cal!
