Surfing over Christmas

Postby Rishie » Wed Nov 02, 2011 11:03 pm

Alright, I have a few days (many!) off over the festive period and thought it would be nice to get myself somewhere I can further my (somewhat limited) skills and have fun. So, where in the world can I go, get lessons and surf all day?

Or should I just go skiing?

First question, from where are you leaving :?:
Hawaii to anywhere south of the Equator or in the northern tropics.
I've taken up troll hunting just for fun, instead of a rifle I'll just use a pun! 冲浪爷爷

Don't want to spend many fortoonas. I live in sunny old Blighty.I do mean anywhere. Obviously I don't want to spend £1000 on flights but have a reasonable budget.

Fuerteventura...

Cheap life, cheap accomodation, good weather all year round (still round 23 degrees through day, 12 in the night, lot of sun) and ace waves in winter...

and lessons are available there. It's a relatively short flight time. A good suggestion.
Morocco is another option. Should be some good surf that time of the year. Nice and warm

if you go to fuerteventura and want to take lessons, go with quiksilver surfschool...
been with those guys now twice and they are just superb...
start at other times than all other surfschools, better gear and they split groups along levels and take you to breaks, all the other schools dont go..

had an incident with another surfschool while out surfing on my own.. i had to "save" their students from themselves.. the surf teacher just left them alone out in the water and paddled ashore... beeing a bit overambitious, some students started paddling out into the head high-outside wave on a reef break (no idea about positioning, no idea about rips and wave dynamics, no idea about surf etiquette, total kooks- some could hardly stay on their foamies).. had to call them back in and show them about where to surf...

when finishing off my session the surf teacher came back into the water.. tried to reason with him but all i got was attitude...
as revenge is sweet "took" a teacher-lycra from them as war trophy! :ninja:

Marocco is the same swell and the same weather.. dunno bout lessons and schools tho...
