Beginner trip to Hossegor

Hey,

So here's the deal. I love surfing with a passion, but I was just terribly unlucky to have been born in the middle of te country no where near a wave. I'm about to take a vacation to France over Christmas and I was wondering if anyone had any advice for where a beginner can stay and rent a board from in Hossegor. What will the weather and waves be like? And where should I go to start small but head to bigger surf nearby for a challenge?

Any advice would be appreciated!!

Thanks!

Hi Vafa10, welcome to Surfing Waves.
Christmas will be cold, you'll propably need a 4/3 wetsuitat that time of the year.
The surf is good at this time of year, so it may be that you won't have to head anywhere for a challenge. The beaches of hossegor provide good quality waves, suitable for beginners when the swell is small.
Have a great trip.

the main problem with the horssegor area is that there isnt really anywhere to hide if the swell gets big because all the coast points the same direction. Not too much of an issue for experienced surfers who can handle the bigger stuff but not great for beginners. Also Horssegor itself if full of very talented surfers which can make it very difficult to get a wave.

My advice would be to look at the beaches further north of Horssegor itself as they are usually less crowded. If it does get too big there is a bit more shelter on the north coast of spain. assuming you will be fairly mobile while you are over there.
