Asturias/Galicia

Postby degrees » Tue Aug 16, 2011 8:36 am

Hey everyone, off for a two week holiday in september to Northern Spain. Flying in to Asturias airport and picking campervan up from there then heading west. Yes yes before you all say head for San Sebastian, Biarritz etc, i was after uncrowded waves rather than nightlife (i get enough of those in Devon). So can anyone recommend some quality waves in Asturias or Galicia(trying to avoid places like Rodiles)? I've got my Footnotes guide so know of Tapia etc but just wondered if there are others i should not miss (i'm no expert, but a so so intermediate surfer)

Cheers

No worries, it cost 980€ for 14 days which i did not think was too bad, from Fiesta Campervans.

All that section of coast picks up good waves, just go and explore and you will find plenty. It does rain a lot up there, but on the plus side the Spanish don't do the mornings :D San Vicente is a chilled place to hang out, with a nice town and beach. it tends to get a little wilder towards galicia though with not so many large towns around.
Have fun, you won't go wrong there 8)

Cant go far wrong with That bit of Spain, Galicia has a wide variety of spots for most wind and swell directions. can be tricky to find them though. get a good map not an ancient euopean atlas and a stormrider guide like we had.

Asturias also has some good waves with not too many people on them if you dont mind exploring a bit. We did speak to some locals there and they did say there wasnt much in the way of sheltered spots or spots handling more than 3m swell as the coast pretty much points the same way.
