Hey there,
I just joined this forum and I was wondering if anyone could help me find the best surf spot near Atlanta GA. I just recently learned how to surf in Santa Cruz and have practiced for a few days there, but when my vacation ended I really wanted to find a spot near home. I am a college kid who is looking for a decent place to surf near home and am willing to take a good road trip to get there. So does anyone know or have any suggestions for a place?

PS. I checked surfline and all those other sites but they didn't seem to help much.

Georgia Surf Breaks

Cumberland Island (so pretty)
Goulds Inlet
Hidden Islands
Little Tybee
Sandbar (on Tybee Is.)
Sea Island
St. Simons Island
Sugar Shack (on Tybee Is.)
Tybee (south end sand bar)
Tybee Pier
Tybee Point

The surf offered by these breaks isn’t that good because it they are in the Southeastern US. Every now and then, I’d recommend a surf safari to Florida’s Cocoa Beach. There is a fairly nice, fat swell regularly on the south side of the pier there.

Since Atlanta is relatively far north of all the better GA breaks and the good FL break, you may also try these breaks in South Carolina:

Folly Beach
Washout (couple miles north of Folly Beach)
Isle of Palms Pier
35th Street at Isle of Palms

None of the breaks are as consistent or as good as what Santa Cruz offers up. But, the important thing is to get wet no matter what.

@Ckyman145, jacksonville fl (northeast fl) gets some decent swell as well. New Smyrna on down to Melbourne bumps in the fall too. Keep your fingers crossed for a swell from hurricane or trop storm!
