Surf tip to Bali

I'm after a little advice really, from surfers that are intermediate + in surfing ability, that have surfed in Bali before............

I'm going to bali this July for 2 weeks, I've been once before last summer. I've surfed for a little over a year and currently i'm pretty much just getting to an intermediate level in surfing (consistently popping up, bottom turning and going down the line.) I want to push myself in Bali - last time I was there I pretty much only surfed padang padang rights ( a smaller reef break next to the real padang pandag break, and a couple sessions at kuta half way, and one session at kuta reef on a 2ft day and didn't catch anything, just wanted to get a feel for it.)

What breaks would you recommend? Surf is also pretty big out there, much bigger than what I normally ride, any tips on getting that confidence up, how big is too big for someone of my ability?

Secondly...completely unrelated - because there is super strong UV's out in Bali, I've got myself some factor 40 sun lotion (i got the burns of my life last summer out there) but am considering zinc too - do you put your lotion on first then apply the zinc ontop of that? (i've never used zinc before.)

Any advice, travel tips, surf info, whatever, would be great, thanks for reading!

Good on you for going to Bali, hopefully you can improve and you most likely will in two weeks of concentrated surfing.
The Kuta stretch is OK but can be hard hitting for a beach break and so shifty with the tides, head west to Medewi there are softer options for improving out that way and not so much traffic coming at you in the surf.
Wear a long sleeve rash shirt and try a product called invisible zinc instead of the sun lotion ( which needs to be waterproof of course) pick your session times if you can morning or late afternoon. If you use normal zinc lips and tips of ears and nose.
I'm an old Ranga and I have to be vigilant about sunburn and what I suggested works for me.
Let's hear about your evolution in surfing when you get back :D
