Surfing Waves

hey erybody.....
i've sold everything and decided to move to the east coast.....out with the old and in with the new!! so i need some info bout surfing out there. i'm a noobie.....i started surfin 'round a couple o' years ago, got my first taste on the oregon coast (which left a bad taste in my mouth) then played alot in the philippines and continued back on the oregon coast (got used to the brrrrr) and surfed maui. so my question is where is a good spot to live and surf? i was contemplating NC but i'm pretty much open to other places (small beach towns preferably) i'm not into the hoity toity beach towns that have orange botoxed virginia slim smokin' nitwits parading around with their ratdog crammed into a kennel with wheels. maybe a spot outside of the beach towns that have a good mix of folks from the seedy degenerates to the spastic overachievers. any info would definately help this gurrrl out! decently priced rent is also a plus!!

well, the east coast stretches from Maine to Florida. If you consider Canada's contribution, it's even longer. I suspect you are pretty free to go wherever it suits you so:

1. My favorite place to surf on the east coast is Cocoa Beach, FL. Sleepy town. Decent surf. Lots of good fish and oysters to eat. Also endless water sports (scuba, clear river canoeing, fishing -- fresh and salt, sailing, water skiing, etc). I like this aspect a lot.
2. Wilmington, NC is another interesting place. It's sleepy, has a Uni, and some surf culture. Also lots of good fish and oysters to eat. Also get BBQ (smoked meats) there.
3. NC's Outer Banks has good surf. It's a bit remote, but that might suit you.
4. Long Island, NY, has good surf, but the air and water temps are cold-ish. Plus, you have to put up with New Yorkers. Can't imagine there is any sort of surfing culture there.
