Indonesia-Australia trip starting Mids Novem 2010...

Hey guys,

After quiting my job, I am planning to start a few months trip around Indonesia and Australia. Although I am a begginer, I want to surf as much as possible and improve my surf skills during this trip.

I was wondering that maybe there are more people who are going to travel during the following months and maybe it would be a good idea to meet, surf together (especially for begginers) and take some benefits (sharing expenses, motorbike/car/van rental, etc).

I am planning to be in Bali between Mids November - Mids January. Then I will go to Australia and maybe New Zealand... Hope to find people to surf with!

Whoa!! Quit your job to travel? I so envy you. I wish I can quit my job and still afford to travel and surf without being dead of starvation. Anyhow, well, unfortunately, Indonesia had been hit by many natural disasters these days. With the tsunami in Mentawai, the surf heaven, and volcanic mountain erupting in Central Java, it'll be a bit concerning to travel to those affected areas. So, stay off those 2 areas I mentioned. Surf in Cimaja, West Java, a tad hard to get to, but totally worth it, as food and motels are cheap. Then off to Bali for more surf and party, you can easily find cheap motels here too. Then off to Nusa Lembongan (off Bali) then to Lombok. Should you want to continue to Aussie and NZ, you can fly from Bali. They have straight flights to many cities in Australia. Good luck!!

Well, not the best time to be in Bali, onshore and rainy season. Consider Srilanka instead and come back in Bali in February.

Same with East Coast Oz. Our surfing season only really starts in March. We are having a very unusual spring at the moment so there are more waves than normal but the Southern Spring and Summer are our worst months in terms of Surf. Same with the Mentawais as they also feed off the winter storms from the South.
