I'm looking to take a vacation with my wife to Costa Rica. I've talked her into learning to surf along with me so this ought to be a perfect opportunity. So I'm looking for some real first hand experience from some of you who have been down there and taken lessons. So tell me your experiences..... your suggestions...quality of lodging... quality of schooling etc.
Thanks alot in advance,
-Duke

Focus on where you want to stay. Avellanas & Playa Grande have more consistent waves, even though Tamarindo has more surf camps but if you can find a good camp in Avellanas or Playa Grande they have better overall surf conditions & cooler digs.

Santa Teresa is the best place to learn how to surf. Really mellow and consitent waves. We stayed at bungalow super vista and the organized surf teachers for us! <edit> There are big surf camps around but these bungalows were too cute to pass up and the teachers that they organized were really helpful. We were standing up on the first day. The town is seriously cool, not over-run with tourists... and monkeys it the trees! Check it out
