Beginner going to Malibu

Postby andj2001 » Thu Jul 08, 2010 6:30 am

Hey,

I'm going with a friend out to CA to stay with another friend near Malibu (who knows nothing about surfing). This will be the first time either of us has ever surfed and I wondered if anyone could help me with a few (dumb) questions.
1. Where are the best beginner beaches in/around Malibu?
2. We are staying for about a week. Should we buy surfboards and then try to sell at week's end or rent? Also, what kind of board should we be looking at? As for size, I'm 6'3" and my friend is about 5'10".
3. We're travelling in a Honda Accord. What is the typical method of transportation for large surfboards and a small car?

Thanks,
Josh

1. Zuma Beach, Will Rogers state beach, and Leo Carillo.
2. Rent boards. Get 9ft longboards. Also rent wetsuit. You will need it. Rents are cheap and you'll get even better prices renting both items for a week.
3. Board on top. Buy soft racks like this: http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywor ... 3iszs834_e
